| Catalonia
Catalonia is located in the Northeast corner of Spain
measuring nearly 32,000 square kilometers (12,000 sq.
miles.) With over 500 kilometers of Mediterranean coastline,
stretching from the French border to the Ebro River
Delta, Catalonia boasts an extraordinary variety of
landscapes packed into a relatively small area (three
quarters the size of Switzerland).
The surrounding countryside is green
and pretty, the coast has lots of coves and small resorts.
The people are welcoming and genuinely child friendly.
There are many good restaurants in Catalonia which boast
excellent cuisine, the food is good, local and fresh,
and the wines are delightful.
To the North, the jagged peaks and alpine
meadows of the Pyrenees offer year-round sports facilities
for skiers and hikers alike. From the snow-peaked Pyrenees
one descends through lush valleys of pine and fir trees,
skirting crystal clear lakes and mountain ranges of
unbelievably capricious shapes, such as the extinct
volcanic parklands around Olot.
The coast offers ideal facilities for
all sorts of water sports, but everywhere you will realize
about that special talent to combine the beauty of nature
or monuments with modern attractions, a main reason
why Catalonia developed into one of the preferred tourist
destinations.
